EXORCISING THE FEARS
Anatomical paintings that combine the human body with nature by Italian artist Nunzio Paci. The works have a natural feel due to his use of earth tones and detail reminiscent of Renaissance anatomy books. Paci uses graphite and oil to bring these fusions to life often spending periods of time in complete isolation. He confesses that he suffers from "irrecoverable" hypochondria, or excessively worrying about becoming seriously ill, and channels his anxieties and fears into his body of work. Paci asserts that his work “is an attempt to exorcise the fears [he lives] with daily”, and the integration of imaginative imagery in an otherwise conventional, scientific context is a direct metaphor for inner unrest.
